Programs 2009-2010 Skating Year
 

Most of the programs offered have not changed from last year, however if you are new to our Club here's a brief rundown of what we offer:

LEARN TO SKATE ***

Children ages 3-5 years old learn the fundamental basics of skating in a safe and fun environment.  Half-hour sessions offer music, games, and continuous learning with a certified instructor.  Skaters are rewarded with badges, stickers, and colouring sheets!  CSA approved skating helmets are mandatory.  Parents are welcome on the ice, but must wear skates.

Tuesday & Thursday,

1st Session:   October 6 – November 26 (8 Weeks)  ***

2nd Session:  January 5 – February 25 (8 Weeks)    ***

No Fundraising Requirement     

  

Additional Skate Time - Commencing October 19, 2009 - March 14th (Ice Show)

                                         Mondays, 4:30 - 5:00pm  ONCE A WEEK****

 

                    ******All CLASSES ARE FULL******

 

CANSKATE ***

Skaters ages 5 and up continue to learn and master the fundamental skating skills of balance, turning, jumping, skating forwards/backwards, and stopping.  Taught by certified coaches, skaters are placed in level appropriate groups to enhance learning.  Great environment for Fun, Fitness, Learning, and Friendship!  CSA approved skating helmets are mandatory.

Tuesday & Thursday,

October 6 – March 11 (21 Weeks) ***

Non-Skating Dates:  Dec 22, Dec 24, Dec 29, Dec 31

 

Additional Skate Times - Commencing October 19, 2009 - March 14th (Ice Show)

                                          Mondays, 4:15pm - 5:00pm ONCE A WEEK****

Jr. STARSKATE (Intro)

Skills, Tests, Achievement, Recognition:  This is what Jr. StarSkate is all about!  Our Jr. StarSkate program is a recreational program where skaters begin to focus on figure skating, while continuing to enhance their skating skills.  This program is taught in a group format with a certified coach.  Skaters will be continuously assessed, and have opportunities to compete if they would like to.  Skaters may also move from this program into semi-private or private lessons upon coach recommendation.  Off-Ice Jump & Conditioning is available to, and recommended for, skaters at this level.

September 28 – March 11 (22 Weeks)

Non-Skating Dates:  Oct 12, Dec 21, Dec 24, Dec 28, Dec 31

 

 

STARSKATE

For competitive and recreational figure-skaters, semi- and private lessons are offered.  Fees charged by the club are ice fees only; private lesson fees are paid directly to the skater’s coach.  StarSkate is designed to allow each skater to reach their potential, through private instruction, practice time, and competition (if desired).  Off-Ice Jump & Conditioning is mandatory for skaters working on their Preliminary Skate or higher.  Skating Dress Code is in effect at all times.

September 22 – March 11 (23 Weeks)

Non-Skating Dates:  Oct 12, Dec 21-Jan 2 inclusive

 

 

OFF-ICE JUMP & CONDITIONING

Mandatory for skaters working on their Preliminary Skate or higher, and recommended for Senior and Junior StarSkate.

Non-Skating Dates:  Dec 25, Jan 1

 

 

ADULT SKATING  

Offered to adults and teen-agers looking to learn how to skate, or to increase their level of skill (either in figure or hockey skates).  The hour sessions include group and private instruction to meet individual needs, as well as open practice time.

Monday,

September 21 – November 16 (8 weeks)

*Time may be adjusted to better suit those registered.

 

 

SYNCHRONIZED SKATING

IIf there is enough interest, learn to synchro will be offered for one 45 minute ssession per week, at a cost of $10 per session (plus $35 Annual Membership Fee if not already paid).  The time will be determined once there are enough sskaters committed.  If you are interested, please talk to Head Coach Monica Boucher, and put your name on the sign-up sheet.

 

POWERSKATING taught by Jim Fleming

A fast-paced learning environment where hockey and ringette skaters will learn the basic skating skills required to excel in their sport.  Balance, stopping, starts, proper skating technique, strides, and turns are taught in small group formats, incorporating drills and games.  Skaters are required to wear full hockey gear, and bring their sticks.

Wednesday,

1st Session (Ages 7 and under):    September 30 – November 4 (6 weeks)

2nd Session (Ages 7 and up):         November 11 – December 16 (6 weeks)

3rd Session (Ages 5 – 8):                January 6 – February 10 (6 weeks)

No Fundraising Requirement

 

  

CHILDREN’S FITNESS TAX CREDIT

 

All fees paid to the Beaumont Skating Club in 2009 (to a maximum of $500) for children ages 16 and under, are eligible for the Children’s Fitness Tax Credit.  Receipts for all registration paid in 2009 will be issued in January 2010.
